Mystical Wonders of Earth: Blood Falls
October 5, 2022
Blood falls may seem like a scary place, but it really isn’t.
Although the name can sound off putting, it’s not actually made of blood. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Blood Falls’s color is actually because of red algae… That’s what the initial thought was, until a study of Glaciers used a radar. They found that it’s actually a trapped lake that is rich in saline and salt and it turns red because of reaction to oxygen. Sadly, it can only be visited by nearby Antarctic research stations or cruise ships going to the Ross Sea.
