Drowning (2nd Place Poem Contest Winner)
May 10, 2022
Darkness filled my mind
And I was left behind
They didn’t care
They weren’t there
–
It was something I had to face
To them I was just a disgrace
Maybe drowning was meant for me
Because their love wasn’t free
–
Bubbles escaped my lips
And the water felt like whips
Oxygen was now gone
My body lifted like a swan
–
A bright light embraced me
To the point where I could hardly see
He stood there waiting
My lungs were inflating
–
He had decided it was time
For me to leave the world behind
Heaven was now my home
And love was finally my own
