A Dancer’s Passion

A+Dancers+Passion

Recently, I wrote an article about the Showcase of Stars dance studio in Lafayette. Makayla Martin, an MCJH 7th-grade Showcase of Stars athlete, wrote about her passion for what she does. In summary, this is what she wrote about being a dancer.

Makayla writes, “For me, being a competitive dancer at Showcase of Stars means [having] dedication to be the best I can be, influencing younger…dancers who look up to me, and never letting fear bring me down.”

“Of course,” she writes, “others may think differently about dancers. Some may see them as childish or different due to dance not being a common hobby or sport, yet others respect dancers’ decision to be a competitive dancer.”

However, Makayla sees dance from a different perspective. She says, “Competitive dance is an experience that I enjoy doing any time. As a dancer, I dedicate myself to gain incredible tricks, transitions, and flexibility. Also, [I influence] others to never give up their passion and become the best they can be. Lastly, [I] never let the fear of losing, getting hurt, or messing up keep me from doing what I love.”
