Be Kind to New Students

Be Kind to New Students

Nevaeh Thomas, Student Features Editor

Lately, we have been receiving a lot of new students. Sometimes, it is hard for them to adjust to their new surroundings and all of the new people around them. In all honesty, everyone knows that not a lot of the other students make them feel welcomed and comfortable. There would usually be a lot of bullying towards the new students as well. However, some kids are nicer than others and will actually stand up for what’s right and try their best to make them feel like they fit in and are not an outcast.

This is not saying that this happens to all new students, but it certainly does happen to some of them. Bullying and harassment towards people can affect their mental health, making it harder for them to focus on school and adjust better. It is very important they feel like they fit in. This is not only for their mental health, but so they know the people around them aren’t all jerks, and that some are very kind people.

So, if you have a new classmate, consider how hard this adjustment is for them. Smile at them, offer advice, show them around, and be kind!
