If you didn’t attend any games for the Section 3 Area 11 Tournament the week of January 16, 2022, you definitely missed a week of great games for the MCJH Tigers and the Tigerettes along with the Tigerettes’ 8th-grade night.

The girls’ 8th-grade night was postponed due to sickness and was made up before their first tournament game. Participating 8th-graders were Chloe Solomon, Kaylee Slayton, and Kelsey Rich.

The girls’ teams that competed in the Area 11 Tournament this year were: Macon County, Dickson County, Gladeville, Mt. Juliet, and West Wilson. The boys’ competing teams were all of the following along with Springfield.

Though they struggled in the first half, the Tigerettes pulled off a win with a major comeback against Mount Juliet on Thursday scoring 31-30, starting them off with a win for their first tournament game. The Tigerettes would now be competing against Dickson County—a team the Tigerettes hadn’t played this season—for 1st place in the area. However, with yet another nail-biting game, the girls were neck-and-neck the whole game against Dickson but were beaten by a buzzer-beating layup during the last millisecond of the game on Saturday, ending with a score of 30-28. The Tigerettes need to win Saturday against Ellis in order to continue their season.

On the other side of the bracket, the boys also played great games, starting with a win 49-42 against West Wilson on Wednesday. However, with a score of 51-43, the boys came up short against Gladeville on Thursday. On Friday, the boys played against Mt. Juliet for 5th place but suffered a heartbreaking loss resulting 33-24, ending their season.

In the end, both teams gave their all in the tournament games, whether they won or lost. The Tigers placed 5th place out of 6 teams, and the Tigerettes placed 2nd out of 5. The girls will continue their season and compete Saturday, January 29 at 2pm against Ellis.
