Lung cancer is the most common type of cancer in Tennessee.  Lung cancer is most common for people who smoke but can occur with any lung issues. There are two major types of lung cancer. They are non-small cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer. More than 81% of the people who have lung cancer are over the age of 60.

Lung cancer has many life-threatening symptoms. Some of the common symptoms are a pain in your chest or in your ribs. Another symptom is coughing. For example a dry, maybe bloody, and phlegm. When your lung cancer starts, it usually starts in the cell lining the bronchi and the parts of the lung such as the bronchioles or alveoli. During your time of having lung cancer, you have stages going from 1-4. It takes about 3 to 6 months to go from stage 1 to stage 4. Therefore, more than half of the lung cancer patients will die within 1 year of having lung cancer. It also takes 4 to 6 cycles of treatments during the 3 to 6 months.

Recovering from cancer-related to lung cancer can be hard to do. People with non-small cell lung cancer can be treated or basically can recover from it by having surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, or a combination of all those combined. After having lung cancer you can kick back and relax. You are officially a cancer survivor.
