National Poetry Month

National Poetry Month

Angel Ferguson

The very first day of April begins the first day of National Poetry Month. 1996 was the year the Academy of American Poets decided to celebrate the magic that revolved around poetry. Poetry has been around for a very long time, since the 20th century B.C. era. Of course, there are different types of poetry. Such as…

These examples of poems you may have already heard of. I didn’t cover a full list of them since it would have taken up tons of time. Poets decided that poetry should have its own month of dedication. Especially for the fact that some use poetry to express feelings, tell a story, and share a message. Poetry is something that can mend relations with people, it’s something most like to write about, it’s a great form of literacy altogether. So on every April fools day, just remember that it’s going to be the start of National Poetry Month.

(BTW, here are a few poets you can learn about!)

  • Robert Frost
  • Emily Dickinson
  • Edgar Allan Poe
  • Walt Whitman
  • William Shakespeare
  • Langston Hughes
  • Maya Angelou
