Britney Jean Spears, a popular late 90s teen pop singer, is now being put back into the spotlight. But it’s not for the right reasons. It was for past controversy for having multiple mental breakdowns and anxiety attacks. It led to her being put into a psychiatric facility until a former fan podcast, Britney’s Gram, sharing a voicemail from a member of Britney’s legal team. The legal team member had said that Jamie Spears, Britney’s father, and conservator, had held Britney in the facility longer than expected because she violated a “no-driving” rule 2019. But that wasn’t all, Britney’s conservatorship should have ended in 2009. This had led other celebrities to spread the movement to end her father’s conservatorship with the hashtag, FreeBritney.

Conservatorship, and why it matters.

You’re probably wondering what conservatorship is, and honestly, it’s kind of complicated to understand. According to Wikipedia, “Conservatorship is a legal concept in the United States. A guardian or a protector is appointed by a judge to manage the financial affairs and/or daily life of another due to physical or mental limitations, or old age. A person under conservatorship is a “conservatee”, a term that can refer to an adult.” Now that you have a small grasp on what this word means, you now understand why Britney wants her freedom. Lately, people have been noticing that Britney’s mental stability is gradually getting better, which is why now, there is a legal case surrounding the conservatorship between Britney Spears and Jamie Spears.

The Legal Case

According to the NBC News article ‘Britney Spears conservatorship ruling was a blow to father, experts say’,  “Framing Britney Spears,” which portrays her is a powerless subject of a secretive 2008 conservatorship following what has been described as a public mental breakdown. James Spears took over as sole conservator in 2019 following the exit of attorney Andrew Wallet. Britney Spears and her friends and fans have all made it clear they mistrust her father, and the star has long wanted him removed from the role.” It seems that the effect of her father was bad from the view of the fans, but how does Jamie Spears feel about removing his conservatorship off of his daughter? It was also stated in the article that a lawyer of Jamie Spears has said, “My client Jamie Spears has diligently and professionally carried out his duties as one of Britney’s conservators,” she said, ‘”…and his love for his daughter and dedication to protecting her is clearly apparent to the court.”‘

At the end of the case, it was said that Britney’s father would still have conservatorship over her for a while. There isn’t much intel on the case as to why the judge would choose that reason, and no one knows why the judge would allow the conservatorship to extend. But it seems that people are worried about Britney and just want the best for her.

So what are your thoughts about the situation, and what do you think is best for Britney?
